Antrim gymnast Rhys McClenaghan has won a brilliant gold medal for Ireland.
He delivered a stellar performance in the Pommel Horse final, resulting in a final score from the judges of 15.533.
He claimed the gold in a stacked field, ahead of Nariman Kurbanov of Kazakstan, and American Stephen Nedoroscik.
Rhys also becomes the first ever Irish athlete to claim gold in any Olympic gymnastics competition.
His phenomenal performance now sees Ireland’s gold medal tally rise to three in these games, after the swimming success of Daniel Wiffen in the pool and rowers Paul O’Donovan & Fintan McCarthy.
