Young Donegal jockey Dylan Browne McMonagle landed a superb win in his debut race at Goodwood Racecourse in the UK this afternoon.
The Letterkenny man brought Black Forza to victory in the Richmond Stakes.
Trained by Michael O’Callaghan, the horse looked outpaced in the early stages but swept past his rivals in the closing stages for a narrow victory. Black Forza was at 9-1, finishing ahead of race favourite, The Striking Viking.
It was a first Goodwood success for McMonagle, who told ITV Racing: “It was my first ride here too so it’s a good start. These are the meetings you want to be riding winners at.
“He’s a top-quality colt who’s still improving. He’ll come on a lot for it again. Stamina was never going to be a problem for us and I was outpaced for the first half of the race, but I knew they were never going to keep going at the speed they were at.”
