New electric car registrations for the first half of this year in Donegal are down significantly on the same period last year.
According to the Society of Irish Motoring Industry (SIMI), just 166 EVs were registered in the county between January and July. This shows a 35.66 per cent decrease on the 258 total for the same period in 2023.
Nationally, 13,885 new electric cars have been registered, representing a 25% decrease compared to the same period in 2023 when 18,484 were registered.
SIMI is now calling for ‘decisive actions’ in Budget 2025 to support the EV market.
New car registrations in Donegal, meanwhile, were up on the same period last year.
SIMI figures show that 2,381 cars were registered for the first time between January and July, a rise of 7.9 per cent on last year’s figure of 2,209.
