Donegal’s Rachael Darragh came agonisingly close to victory on her Olympic debut today.
However, the Raphoe badminton star was pipped in the end by current European Games bronze medallist, Jenjira Stadelmann.
The 26-year-old lost out in her opening Group L match 21-13 22-24 15-21 to her opponent in the Porte de la Chapelle Arena in Paris.
Darragh impressively won her first game, and had match point at one stage of the second, but Stadelmann pulled clear in the final stages of the third.
Darragh will take on Spain’s Marin in the final game tomorrow at 1pm.
However, she will have work cut out as Marin beat Stadelmann 2-0 in the group opener and will be firm favourite for the last group game.
Darragh’s uncle is Raphoe man Daniel Magee who is a high performance director at Badminton Ireland.
