A yacht which developed engine trouble off West Donegal had to be towed to safety yesterday.
The 11 metre yacht with two crew members developed engine trouble around 5pm.
The Arranmore RNLI volunteer crew were asked by Malin Head Coast Guard to assist the yacht two miles off Arranmore Island.
On arrival at the stricken yacht the lifeboat crew connected a tow and the yacht was towed to the safety at Burtonport Harbour.
The lifeboat returned to anchor at Arranmore at 7.35pm following refuelling.
Crew members on board the lifeboat were Coxswain Jimmy Early, relief mechanic, Thomas Davis, Kieran O’Donnell, Sean O’Donnell, Sharon O’Donnell, Evan O’Donnell, Finbar Gallagher.
Coxswain Jimmy Early said “Weather conditions at the time were favourable with a light southerly wind and a half meter swell.
“The crew of the yacht did exactly the right thing in asking for assistance and as a 24/7 emergency service we are happy to respond.”
