A new study has revealed that Donegal has one of the lowest solar PV installation rates per capita in Ireland.
EnergyEfficiency.ie research shows that the county had fewer than 20 installations per 10,000 people in the first half of 2024. Meath, with 36, has the highest rate.
In the first six months of this year, there were a total of 333 solar installations in Donegal according to SEAI figures.
This equates to 19.6 installations per 10,000 people in the county. Only Longford (16.8) and Monaghan (18.98) had a lower rate than Donegal. Three Ulster counties are included in the bottom five.
Overall, there were 13,498 grant assisted solar installations across the country during the same period.
Dublin, which had by far the most solar panel installations overall, is 5th from the bottom, with 22.04, when looking at installations per capita.
