It was another successful weekend for Rosses AC at the National Juvenile Track and Field Championships in Tullamore.
On Day 2, last Sunday, the club had Sheila Gallagher in both Shot Put and Discus and Eli Duffy (main pic) taking in the Javelin and Discus.
Sheila had a good day throwing a 23.07m pb in the girls u18 Discus and securing a top 8 finish in both events. Eli was 9th in the u14 boys Discus but his specialty is the javelin and he was to land a gold medal and top of the podium finish with a massive 41.72m throw and increasing his own PB by over 6 meters. Eli has worked hard all year and Sunday was a great reward for all involved.
On Saturday 7 athletes travelled to Tullamore for the All Ireland B championships and it was a successful day with 2 gold medals and a silver medal won for the club. The talented Caoimhe McGonigle (below) won two gold medals in the Shot Put and High Jump in a super day for her clearing 1.50m in High Jump and throwing over 10 meters in Shot. Her sister Aoife had a great day also and was so unlucky with two 4th place finishes in the High Jump and Shot Putt.
Odhran Lynch (below on left) has been knocking on the door for a while and got his reward on Sunday when he secured a silver medal in the u15 boys Long Jump with a 4.47m jump. Tamara Parker had a strong day also and just missed out on a medal in the 60m sprint with a 4th place finish. There were a number of great performances from other athletes and the experience gained will help build confidence and have these athletes push on in training for next year. Well done also to Eveney Greene, Jenny Gallagher and Aidan Lynch. Big thanks to all who travelled – athletes, parents and officials.
At the Na Rossa GAA 5k which was the first annual Na Rossa GAA 5k it was well supported by Rosses athletes. First male home was Charlie O Donnell, 2nd Mark Ward and 3rd Declan Gallagher. In the ladies section first Helen McCready, 2nd Bernie Boyle and 3rd Kevea Gallagher. First U20 Seamus Boyce, and first under 20 female Aileen Logue. 1st M40 Gavin Ward, 1st F40 Martina Mulhern, 1st M50 Patrick Trimble, 1st F50 Cathy Breslin. Well done to all who organised. The Dungloe Festival 5k will be a big focus for many next Tuesday.
The weekend also is also the final day of the All Ireland Juvenile Championships in Tullamore with Cianan Green (u14 boys Shot Putt), Niamh Doogan (u15 girls 250m Hurdles) and Eva Logue (u16 girls High Jump) all competing and good luck from all at the club.
