Narosa Surf School in north west Donegal is bidding farewell to two of its pillars, Lee and Jude Wood, who are relocating to Scotland after 16 years.
Lee Wood, who co-founded Narosa alongside Duncan Halliday in 2009, announced the move to be closer to family in his native Scotland. Duncan will stay on to lead the highly-regarded surf school which operates across Dunfanaghy and Magheraroarty.
Lee’s wife Jude has been the creative head of the Narosa team and headed up the Narosa Stay group of apartments and glamping pods.
In a heartfelt message to the community, Lee wrote: “We’re relocating to Edinburgh with our kids, Oscar and Ella, to be closer to family again. Being from Scotland and Jude from Germany, we’ve missed that family connection over the years and feel it’s time to rekindle those bonds.
“When Duncan and I set out for beautiful Dunfanaghy years ago, we hoped to share the joys of surfing with as many people as possible. We’ve had an incredible journey and I’m amazed by what our brilliant team has accomplished. A huge thank you to all the Narosa crew over the past 16 years, especially those who have been with us for so long and continue to work toward our vision.”
Lee also extended gratitude to everyone who learned to surf at Narosa, highlighting the joy of witnessing students blossom into instructors themselves.
“The team will continue to aim for new heights in the future,” he said.
“It’s been an incredible privilege to teach so many wonderful people to surf and to watch the kids grow up and achieve amazing things. Many of those kids have joined our team and are nurturing the next generation of surfers in Donegal.
“We are a family business, and I feel connected to so many of you. Although I’m sad I won’t get to say goodbye to everyone, I hope you’ll stay in touch and we’ll meet again.”
