Talks are taking place to determine the full extent of repairs needed to make three dilapidated buildings on Main Street Letterkenny safe again.
It’s been six weeks since Numbers 2, 4 and 6 Upper Main Street were suddenly cordoned off due to safety concerns highlighted by structural engineers.
This closure has significantly impacted the main street, causing traffic to be diverted and altering part of the pedestrian walkway leading to Market Square.
In an update to councillors yesterday, Donegal County Council confirmed that it is continuing to liaise with all parties with an interest in the properties, their representatives, and the Council’s Structural Consultant on the matter.
The focus remains on completing a “detailed and considered assessment” to identify the essential works required to eliminate the safety risks.
A spokesperson said: “The Council will endeavour to progress this matter with the building owners to minimise closures to the footpath, carriageway and parking areas, however the Council have to ensure measures to mitigate safety risk and potential impact and risk of the works to adjoining buildings / structures are also fully considered.”
