Further progress is expected on the proposed new Community Nursing Unit and Primary Care Centre in Lifford this year, the HSE has confirmed.
A feasibility study is being conducted throughout 2024 on the development which will replace the existing Lifford Hospital building. The developments are due to enter the ‘detailed design’ stage by the end of 2024.
The plans include a 25-bed Community Nursing Unit alongside a 3,000sqm Primary Care Centre to be built alongside a multi-million euro redevelopment of fields at Lifford Common.
An update from this week’s Regional Health Forum West, provided to Cllr Gary Doherty, confirmed that the project is progressing investment through HSE Capital Plan over the coming years.
“The next step in the process is the completion of a detailed feasibility study for the development. The overall approach for the delivery of the projects will be determined following completion of the feasibility study,” confirmed Joe Hoare, Assistant National Director of HSE Capital and Estates.
In a further update to Councillor Ciaran Brogan, the HSE elaborated on the overall capital programme timeline for Donegal projects. The typical lifecycle for major projects involves several years, progressing through initiation, design, and construction. The design stage typically takes 12-15 months, while construction can range from 12 to 24 months depending on the project’s scale and scope.
