The people of the Twin Towns and further afield have responded magnificently after a recent appeal to raise funds for public defibrillator units for the area.
Local paramedic Aiden Thompson started the fundraising campaign for the three public access units to be bought and placed across Ballybofey and Stranorlar just last week.
And now he has revealed that after just a matter of days their target of €6,000 has been reached.
As a registered paramedic and an instructor with the Irish Heart Foundation, Aiden has experience with just how effective these machines can be in saving lives.
But he is still pleading with people to donate to the page so that other units can be purchased and other lives can be saved.
He said “The people of the Twin Towns have been simply fantastic, we have achieved the goal of €6,000 for our public access defibrillators. This initiative was only set up on Friday, and we have done it. Wow.
“But, please don’t stop here, these machines will need to be maintained, and there will be additional costs for extra defib pads, which will need to be changed every two years (for paediatrics and adults), BLS kits, response bags, and insurance issues.
“Please keep sharing the link and ask your boss to donate to this worthy cause. They say it takes a village to raise a child, well our little villages may just save a child too.”
Aiden added “Every day in Ireland, 12–15 people will go into cardiac arrest outside of the hospital, and the sooner we recognise this event and commence CPR while someone else gets a defibrillator to the casualty, the greater the chances of surviva
