A gifted young Donegal darts player has won two European Gold medals with the Irish Youth Team.
Shane Porter (16), from Letterkenny, was the only boy from the county who represented Ireland in the Europe Youth Cup in Latvia at the weekend.
The Irish team won both the boys youth and overall team medals at the 2024 World Darts Federation competition.
Shane and his teammates, Aidan O’Hara, Sean McKeon and Callum Coade, received a huge welcome when they landed back at Dublin Airport last night.
A son of Gerald and Noreen Porter, the St Eunan’s College student first stepped up to the oche when he was just a toddler and has never looked back.
Now, Shane is the current Captain of the Donegal Youth Team. Indeed, himself and his younger brother, Jack (13), have also been selected for the Irish Youth Darts Team to compete in this year’s WDF World Masters competition.
They will be the only boys from the county who will represent their country at the prestigious event which will be held in October at a European location yet to be confirmed.
Shane also plays for Brownes Bar in Twin Towns League as well as for Glencar Inn who recently won the Letterkenny League.
Needless to say, Shane has been heavily influenced by his dad who also competed for Ireland at senior international level.
