This year’s Party In The Park in Letterkenny will celebrate a dearly missed local legend as the main stage is officially renamed as ‘The Paul Mooney Stage’.
The youth event returns to Letterkenny Town Park on Friday 26th July. This year will pay a special tribute to the character and talent of the late Ramelton musician Paul Mooney, who died in a tragic car accident before Christmas.
Paul’s parents Morgan and Gwen will be at the event to launch ‘The Paul Mooney Stage’, as it will be forever named, and present a donation to the Donegal Youth Service in memory of Paul.
Paul was a former participant of the Loft Youth Project and began his music career with DYS performing at the Party in The Park with his band the Hijacking Camels.
Back in 2008, Paul had the opportunity to take part in the Irish Youth Music Awards creating an album with his peers at Ashtown Studios in Dublin. Paul credited this experience as being the inspiration that led him to a life in music. Throughout his life, Paul touched the hearts of so many and was always eager to give back to the Donegal Youth Service by helping other young musicians.
“He was a special character, unequivocally kind, loyal and true to himself. The impact he left on the people he met was something of magic, and his imprint will forever be on the Donegal Youth Service,” a spokesperson said.
The decision to dedicate the stage to Paul was made as a tribute to his contributions to the music community and his commitment to the Donegal Youth Service. His passion for music was matched only by his love for his family, friends, and partner Nicolle.
The Donegal Youth Service hopes that the dedication of The Paul Mooney Stage will serve as a reminder of his incredible legacy and inspire future generations of young musicians to follow in his footsteps.
