A Donegal man has set a new world record for an unsupported cycle from Malin Head to Mizen Head – and back again!
Karol Mc Nern from Ballyshannon crossed the finish line of his mammoth challenge yesterday in a time of 53:29:54.
The non-stop cycling event was Karol’s third attempt and, following two previous mechanical letdowns, he was over the moon to accomplish the mission.

It was a test of endurance and also a fundraising effort from Karol in support of Bundoran RNLI which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year while the charity is marking its 200th anniversary.
Not only did Karol break the World UltraCycling Association (WUCA) record, he is also drawing attention to the lifesaving work of Bundoran RNLI. He has raised over €2,000 online, which will go directly to supporting the work of the volunteer crew in saving lives at sea.
Karol said: “Having served as a crew member and a helm, I know first hand the importance of the lifeboat service to a community. This ride is my way of giving back and raising awareness for the incredible work all the Bundoran team do.”
No stranger to charity challenges, Karol has also overcome his fair share of health challenges, having sustained life-changing arm injuries in June 2017 when he was struck by a SUV while cycling outside Grange.
