The first of tens of thousands of Donegal fans will head off to Dublin tomorrow ahead of Sunday’s mouth watering All-Ireland Football Semi Final against Galway.
For those who can’t make it down, the match will be broadcast live on both BBC and RTE with a 4pm throw-in.
Jim McGuinness named his starting 15 earlier today, with one notable absence being Carndonagh’s Conor O’Donnell who is, again, out injured.
The vacancy means Jeac MacCeallabhui will be handed a first championship start for Donegal. On a brighter note, however, Jason McGee returns from injury and is on the bench, but is likely to play some part.
Galway have named the same starting XV that defeated Dublin, with both Sean Kelly and Shane Walsh included despite being taken off with what looked like bad injuries.
McGuinness will face his old friend and collegemate, Padraig Joyce, on the sideline for the first time. The pair helped IT Tralee to a Sigerson Cup win in 1998.
Needless to say, there is huge interest in the game around the county, and there has been since McGuinness returned to the role last winter. Indeed, the Glenties man has already noted that Donegal’s supporters are already playing a vital role in his team’s resurgence. He has even described them as his sixteenth player!
All in all, it will be an extremely tight affair on Sunday. But hopefully Donegal’s wonderful fans can spur their team to victory once again, and shorten the journey for us all back to the hills!
