The possibility of reopening a long-closed walkway to Drumboe Woods is being explored during upcoming extension works at Finn Valley College.
The footpath through the woods has been inaccessible since 2010 due to construction on the new school building. Frustration has been mounting in the community, with calls for reopening growing over the past 14 years.
Cllr Martin Harley has said that new developments could lead to a solution, revealing that a meeting is due to take place in the next ten days between the council, the contractor and Donegal ETB.
Cllr Harley emphasized that Finn Valley College itself is not to blame for the obstacle.
“I welcome the fact that FVC and the principal there has been working hard to try and get this sorted,” Cllr Harley told today’s meeting of the Lifford-Stranorlar Municipal District.
“The works on the new extension is starting now, it’s an appropriate time for the ETB and council to meet up the contractor on-site so both parties can work together and get this resolved as quickly as possible.
“It’s important for the area,” Cllr Harley continued. “The school, as a community school, wants to work with the community on this.
“Hopefully we can get a resolution fairly quickly.”
