Ramelton’s Sean Hegarty has been remembered as a passionate and dedicated haulier, and one of life’s true gentlemen, following his passing last week.
Mr Hegarty of Woodtown, the founder of Sean Hegarty & Sons Haulage, passed away peacefully on Friday last.
Mr Hegarty and his wife May set up their business with just one truck in 1973. Over 50 years, the company has expanded into a hugely successful family business and a major employer with their award-winning groupage service.
“He was one of life’s true gentlemen and will be missed beyond words,” said a company tribute to Sean’s legacy following his funeral yesterday.
“The stories that have been told over the past couple of days have been heartwarming.. from helping out fellow truckers who have broken down along the roadside, to letting young truck enthusiasts drive the trucks in the yard leading to them becoming truck drivers.
“Trucks were Sean’s absolute passion since childhood, nothing else ever entered the equation. His dedication to getting the job done was unparalleled.
“Sean also had great respect for his staff, drivers were more than just drivers, he treated them like family.. few ever escaped from the yard without tea to start or end their journey.
“We will strive to continue to build on your success and only hope we do you proud.
“Your favourite song really did encapsulate all that you were.. “It’s a working man I am”.”
Mr Hegarty is mourned by his loving wife May, family, John (Siobhán), Claire (Shaun), Marylee (James), Glenda (Michael), Brian (Sarah), his ten grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
May he Rest in Peace
