Local Enterprise Office Donegal is hosting a one-day Start Your Own Business bootcamp in Letterkenny later this month. The bootcamp will take place on Friday, 26th July 2024, from 9:30am to 5:00pm at the Local Enterprise Office, Letterkenny.
The Start Your Own Business programme is a vital support initiative for new business start-ups in Donegal. This intensive workshop is designed to empower aspiring entrepreneurs to develop their business ideas and plans, ensuring they have the necessary tools to launch their new ventures or further develop their existing businesses.
“The Local Enterprise Office is the first stop shop for businesses in Donegal. We are committed to fostering entrepreneurship and providing the necessary support for businesses to start and grow” said Brenda Hegarty, Head of Enterprise Donegal. “This bootcamp is an excellent opportunity for aspiring entrepreneurs to gain the knowledge and skills needed to turn their ideas into successful enterprises.”
The programme will address key issues such as testing the viability of the start-up idea, routes to market, financial planning, developing competitive advantage, risk assessment, and identifying the skills required to succeed in business. It is designed for individuals with a business idea they wish to develop, those considering self-employment as a career option, and recent business start-ups.
Participants will be guided through various aspects of business and business planning, including an introduction to enterprise and self-employment, preparing a business plan, legal issues for start-ups, sales strategies, marketing for small businesses, financial management, basic bookkeeping, taxation, funding sources, and developing a business mindset.
“Our goal is to ensure that participants are well-prepared to launch and grow their businesses successfully” Brenda Hegarty added. “Planning is the single most important step in setting up a new business, and this programme provides the essential tools and knowledge required to navigate the challenges and opportunities of any entrepreneurial journey. Attendees will gain insights into assessing their business ideas, determining their viability, and making informed decisions about whether to proceed or reevaluate their plans.”
The cost for participation is €50, which includes a light lunch, tea, and coffee. Each participating business will also receive one hour of post-course mentoring to develop action-oriented business plans and ideas. Past participants of the Start Your Own Business programme include Adrian Boyle of Blistered Bread, Susan McLaughlin of Love A Little Sauces and Michael O’Rourke of ProTech.
