A mother and daughter were killed in an overnight road tragedy in Co Mayo.
The woman, who was in her 40s and her who was aged 8, were killed instantly after their car collided with a lorry on the N26 at Callow between Foxford and Swinford, shortly before 6pm yesterday.
The driver of the lorry was taken to hospital with injuries, which are understood to be non-life threatening.
The N26 road has reopened after diversions were put in place following the incident.
Gardaí have appealed for anyone who may have camera footage and were travelling on the N26 between Swinford and Foxford between 5pm and 6pm yesterday.
Gardai weather conditions were good, but said that the stretch of road where the collision occurred has “a number of bends and governed by double white lines”.
In a separate incident, a man in his 50s died following a single-car crash in Co Westmeath.
So far this year 96 people have died on Irish roads, up 11 on the same period last year.
