A heroic young Donegal man who risked his life TWICE to save an elderly man from a burning house has officially been nominated for a National Bravery Award.
Kealan Dolan ran into a burning cottage in Corkey, Manorcunningham on Friday afternoon last when he noticed smoke coming from the house.
The 22-year-old managed to pull an elderly man from the house just seconds before the windows blew out on the house and the building went up in flames.
Now Kealan, from Glebe in Ballyare is in line to receive the recognition he deserves for his amazing bravery which was first revealed here on Donegal Daily.
Local county councillor and chairperson of the Donegal Joint Policing Committee, Gerry McMonagle, said he had no hesitation in forwarding Kealan’s name for the award.
He said “I spoke to Kealan and I think it was only really dawning on him what he actually did by going into that house twice and saving the life of that man.
“He’s a modest young fella and certainly wasn’t talking himself up in any way but I certainly think what he did needs to be recognised.
“We sometimes hear a lot of negative stuff when our young people make mistakes but this is certainly one time that one of our young people needs to be recognised and praised for something.”
An account of Kealan’s brave act has been forwarded to the Department of Justice by Councillor McMonagle and is being considered by the Deeds of Bravery Council.
