A well-known Dunfanaghy family have raised a staggering €23,000 after organising a tea day to help raise funds for the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association.
The Sterritt family are coping with the recent news that a member of their family is now battling the disease.
They decided to host the fundraising day to help others who have found themselves in the same position.
And on March 24th last, the family hosted a Drink Tea for MND Day which was held in held in the Ozanam Community Centre in Dunfanaghy.
There are more than 450 people affected by this cruel and debilitating disease all across Ireland.
Currently this is not something there is a cure for but the IMNDA are constantly researching and hopefully this is something which will help people in the future.
A spokesperson for the Sterritt family said “The Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (IMNDA) is the only organisation in this country supporting these families and it’s a charity that’s very close to our heart.
“Please support our fundraising efforts and help us ensure that every person living with MND receives the dedicated care and support they need.
“It will hopefully help also to raise funds for vital research towards finding a cure.”
The Sterritt family said they were overwhelmed by the support shown on the day.
A spokesperson said “Well what can we say except a massive THANK YOU to everyone. To think a tea day could raise €23k is just crazy!”
“Thank you to everyone who helped on the day and in the run up, everyone who donated prizes for the raffles, the Ozanam Centre and their staff and to everyone who came and supported such a great cause.
“Thank you also to Dunfanaghy Bowling club who also had a raffle and donated €550 to our total”
The Sterritts are pictured presenting the cheque for the proceeds to Naomi Fitzgibbon from Motor Neurone Disease Association.
