Mona McSharry set a new Irish record time overnight at an event in Vancouver, Canada.
The 23-year-old Sligo swimmer, who trains with Ballyshannon Marlins, smashed her own record by 2 seconds.
She set a blazing time of 2:22.49 at the Mel Zajac Jr International Swim Meet, putting McSharry below the Olympic qualifying time for the 200m breaststroke.
Mona will have a fighting chance at making the Olympic final when the games get underway in Paris next month.
