Donegal’s Mark English has lowered his own Irish 800m record ahead of the Olympics.
He set a blazing time of 1:44.53 last night at the Meeting Madrid event, finishing fourth overall.
It marks the second time in a week that English has lowered the Irish record, having previously set a new standard of a 1:44.69 in Finland on Tuesday.
The second new record in a week now sees English comfortably within the Olympic qualifying time for the 800m, with English now awaiting official confirmation of his selection.
Running in Paris would mark the third Olympic appearance for 31-year-old English.
