As the second day of the 2024 Donegal International Rally roars into life, rally fans have remembered two of the finest drivers to take on Donegal’s stages in modern times.
Both “King of the Hills” Manus Kelly and WRC star Craig Breen still live long in the memories of the passionate Donegal fans, after their deaths in recent years.
Donegal man Manus won the Donegal International Rally on three consecutive occasions from 2016 to 2018 before his tragic passing on the final day of the 2019 event.
Breen, in-between stints as a factory driver in the World Rally Championship for a range of manufacturers, took on the Donegal Rally three times, and famously called Donegal his favourite rally of them all in an interview. He was also sadly lost last year in a testing accident in Croatia.
Both men are still well-remembered by the Donegal fans however, with a tribute popping up on Portsalon beach during the rally weekend.
Shawn and Liam Kelly, who previously helped create a tribute to Manus during the 2022 event, enscribed a simple but poignant message on the beach below where so many rally icons have driven before, and will drive today.
