Matt Edwards leads the pack after an eventful first day of running in the 2024 Donegal International Rally.
The British driver in his Ford Fiesta R2 leads second-placed Callum Devine in his Skoda R2 by 12 seconds after six gruelling stages.
Cathan McCourt is third in his Ford 24 seconds off the leader, with Josh Moffett and his Citroen in fourth and Meirion Evans’ Toyota completing the top 5.
Mixed weather conditions played a part as they always do in Donegal, and the tricky surface played a part in a dramatic crash on stage 5 for the then-leader Keith Cronin.
Cronin had a big off on the second time over Mamore Gap, his 9 second lead heading into the stage turning into a DNF.
The field will now return to Letterkenny for Parc Ferme, with tomorrow seeing some classic Donegal stages upcoming.
There are a total of eight stages on tomorrow’s schedule, with everything still very much to play for – and the historic entries getting into the mix as well.
