Several cars have been taken off the road today following sweeping checkpoints in place across Donegal.
A major garda operation is underway to tackle dangerous driving behaviour and defective vehicles during the weekend of the Donegal rally. Vehicles were inspected at a number of multi-agency checkpoints earlier today.
The Buncrana Roads Policing Unit were in action along with the Dog Unit, the RSA and Customs Officers at a checkpoint in Letterkenny this evening where two vehicles were seized.
A Garda spokesperson said: “One of the vehicles was deemed to be dangerous and defective and the other had no tax, NCT or insurance.
“Please ensure that your vehicle is in a roadworthy condition and that your documents are in order.”
Elsewhere on the dual carriageway, another car was seized and the driver will be issued with a Fixed Charge Penalty Notice.
“Speeding and any sort of bad driving behaviour will not be tolerated. Slow down,” gardaí said.
Later this evening, a further three vehicles were seized by the Roads Policing Unit.
Gardaí seized a car in the Letterkenny area as the driver was uninsured. A further two cars were seized as they were deemed to be defective.
Another warning from gardaí said: “Do not take to the roads unless your documentation is in order/up to date and your vehicle is in a safe and a roadworthy condition.”
