Former RTE reporter Ciaran Mullooly has claimed the last seat in the race for Europe.
The final Irish seats for the European Parliament were filled in the early hours of this morning with the conclusion of the count in the Midlands-North-West constituency.
Five candidates were elected following a five-day count, which concluded at 3.10am in Castlebar, Co Mayo.
Luke ‘Ming’ Flanagan was first home followed by Fianna Fáil’s Barry Cowen with Fine Gael’s Nina Carberry and Maria Walsh then joined by Independent Ireland’s Ciaran Mullooly to complete the five seater.
Donegal’s Niall Blaney had been eliminated after the fifteenth count.
Sinn Féin’s Michelle Gildernew missed out by almost 5,500 votes, as her party lost the seat it had held in the constituency since 2014.
