Four stops on the Bus Éireann route 64 from Derry to Galway will have wheelchair accessible stops from 23rd June, it has been confirmed.
In a bid to deliver more inclusive public transport, the service will now provide accessible stops at bus stations in Letterkenny, Ballyshannon, Sligo and Galway.
Cllr Jimmy Kavanagh has welcomed the move by Bus Eireann after the issue was raised at a meeting in April.
“This will now be the first time that the Derry to Galway route will have accessible busses available,” Cllr Kavanagh said, welcoming the “big improvement especially for disabled people attending health care appointments in Sligo and Galway.”
Bus Éireann said it is keen to build on the initial list of stops as existing stops infrastructure is upgraded by the National Transport Authority and Local Authorities.
