The first count in the Midlands-North West constituency in the European elections has been announced.
Sitting MEP Luke Ming Flanagan has topped the poll on 78,214 in the five seater.
Fianna Fáil’s Barry Cowen on 73,908 is in second place just ahead of Fine Gael’s Nina Carberry who is on 73,888 and her party colleague Maria Walsh on 71,476.
Former RTE correspondent, Ciaran Mullooly has over 57,000 votes. Sinn Féin’s Michelle Gildernew has 45,807, Lisa Chambers has 44,069 and Peadar Tóibín is on 40,742.
It is expected Sligo-based sitting Sinn Féin, Chris McManus, will lose his seat after a first preference vote of around 29,500.
The electorate was 679,946 and the quota is 113,325.
The three lowest-ranking candidates have been eliminated.
Counting now continues to distribute the votes of the three eliminated candidates.
