Gardaí are investigating the theft of fuel from a tractor in the Pettigo area last week.
The incident occurred at a farmyard in the townland of Kimmid sometime between 6pm on Tuesday, June 4, and 9.30am on Wednesday, June 5.
Residents in that area are urged to make contact with Gardaí in Ballyshannon on 071-9858530 if they observed any suspicious activity or vehicles between those dates.
“We also appeal to other farmers in that area to check their farmyards in case other thefts may have occurred,” said Garda Sergeant Fergus McGroary, Divisional Crime Prevention Officer.
Sgt McGroary also advised all farmers to ensure they have adequate security measures in place on their farm.
“Please ensure that your shed doors are locked when the yard is unattended and that all machinery is locked up. Do not leave keys in machinery. CCTV should be considered if there is machinery of a high value on the farm and ensure that there is good lighting in and around the farmyard.”
If any farmers want advice in relation to security measures for their farm, they can contact Sgt McGroary at Letterkenny Garda Station on 074-9167100, or email donegalcpo@garda.ie, and he will be happy to oblige.
