Athletes from Loreto Letterkenny put in a fantastic performance at last weekend’s All Ireland Schools Championships in Tullamore.
The intermediate girls team consisted of Erin Friel, Aoife McGeehin, Emma Bonar, Katie Elliott, Maeve Doherty and Anna Russell. Each girl competed individually to score points.
Erin Friel won the gold medal in the 300m. Aoife McGeehin won the silver medal in the javelin competition and was 6th in the discus.
The 4x100m relay team of Katie Elliott, Emma Bonar, Maeve Doherty and Erin Friel won the bronze medal. Emma Bonar was 4th in the 800m. Katie Elliott was 5th in the high jump. Maeve Doherty was 6th in the 80m hurdles. Anna Russell was 10th in the 1500m steeplechase.
There were 124 schools in the intermediate girls category. Loreto Letterkennys inter girls team scored a total of 35.5 points to win from St. Angela’s in Cork on 21 points.
All six girls have been selected to represent Ulster in the Tailteann games interprovincial championships on the 22nd of June. Erin Friel has been given the added honour of being selected as the Captain of the Ulster team.
