Hotelier Michael Naughton has topped the tally poll in the Donegal Electoral area.
The Fianna Fail man from Laghey has polled 13.4% of the vote.
A total of fifteen candidates are seeking six seats in this area.
A number of sitting councillors are also polling well including Noel Jordan (Sinn Fein) and Michael McMahon (Sinn Fein).
The independent candidate Jimmy Brogan is tallying well and is in fourth position.
Fine Gael are again struggling with sitting councillor Barry Sweeny currently in seventh place in this six seater but there is plenty to go when the transfers come in.

6 – Manus Boyle, Fine Gael; 9.4 percent, 1,278 votes
7 – Barry Sweeny, Ballyshannon, Fine Gael; 9.4 percent, 1,270 votes
8 -Niamh Kennedy, Killybegs, non-party; 8.1 percent, 1,096
9 – Martin Hegarty, Fianna Fáil; 5.5 percent, 742 votes
10 -Diarmaid Doherty, non-party; 3.7 percent, 469 votes
11 – Linda Boyle, Kilcar, Sinn Féin, 3.3 percent, 441 votes
