Independent election candidate Declan Meehan has topped the tally poll in the Milford Electoral area.
The manager of the Milford and District Resource Centre has polled ahead of veteran local sitting councillors Liam Blaney (FF), Pauric McGarvey and John O’Donnell (Ind).
Meehan tripled his vote to 1,712 (21%) from his first outing in the local elections five years ago.
Although it is early days yet, it looks like it could be a dog fight for the third seat – possibly between McGarvey and O’Donnell.
Sinn Fein’s Maria Doherty is in fifth place in the tally while she is followed by the 100% Redress candidate Éamonn Jackson.
Fine Gael may be somewhat disappointed at the vote of Aaron Sweeney who stands in seventh place.
The total tally in this three seater is:
Declan Meehan, Ramelton, non-party; 21%, 1,712
Liam Blaney, Tamney, Fianna Fáil; 18.8%, 1,534
Pauric McGarvey, Rathmullan; non-party; 16.9%, 1,378
John O’Donnell, Kilmacrennan, non-party; 16.3%, 1,327
Maria Doherty, Carrigart, Sinn Féin; 11.3%, 918
Éamonn Jackson, Glenkeen, Milford, 100% Redress; 6.1%, 499
Aaron Sweeney, Cranford, Fine Gael; 6.1%, 497
Vincent J Bradley, Carrigart, non-party; 1.8%, 143
Kathleen Deeney, Rathmullan, Aontú 1.6%, 131
