Cobh Ramblers FC 2 v 0 Finn Harps
Cobh Ramblers made it three wins out of three with a 2-0 victory at St. Colman’s Park tonight.
The home side won the previous meeting at this venue also by 2-0 and their meeting at Finn Park 0-1.
Harps Manager Darren Murphy made three changes to his starting line-up from Monday night’s draw against Athlone Town with Conor Walsh, Stephen Doherty and Success Edogun replacing Tim Hiemer, Sean O Donnell and Aaron McLaughlin.
Keeper Walsh was called into action in the first minute with a good save and with Harps under early pressure Noe Baba picked up a yellow card.
Success Edogun had Harps first shot of goal in the ninth minute and three minutes later Cobh’s Liam Kervick should have done better after pouncing on an error by Jamie Watson, but he fired high and wide.
Patrick Ferry and Dale Holland both picked up yellow cards after a clash in the 24th minute as both teams struggled to produce anything of note going forward. Then two minutes later a great chance for Harps when Dave Cawley’s super pass put Ferry in but he snatched at it and the chance was gone.
Six minutes later Cobh went ahead, Liam Kervick producing an excellent finish, latching onto a through ball and slotting the ball passed Walsh despite several defenders in close attendance.
The home side had the better of things in the remaining minutes of the half but it remained 1-0 at the break.
Harps started the second-half well with Edogun forcing a save from Darragh Burke in the 47th minute and then setting up Dave Cawley but his effort was easily dealt with by Burke.
On the hour Success Edogun did well again but Ferry was just wide when his cross found him in the box. Harps pushed hard for an equalizer but Cobh defended well and in numbers making a breakthrough very difficult.
Dave Cawley was denied by keeper Burke in the 74th minute, then the goal under did well to deny Sub Sean O Donnell two minutes later as Harps pushed hard to get level.
But it wasn’t to be as the home team wrapped things up with a second goal in injury- time, David Bosnjak applying the finish.
In tonight’s other First Division games leaders Cork City beat Longford Town 2-0, Trearty FC beat Bray Wds 2-0 and UCD and Kerry FC drew 1-1.
Harps are back in action next Thursday night 13th when they host 2nd place UCD at Finn Park with a 7-45pm kick-off.
