Students at Abbey Vocational School were recently tasked with creating brand new anti-smoking and anti-vaping posters in a competition.
TY students were challeneged to create the posters with the help of the HSE’s Smoking Cessation Services, the Rowanfield House Residential Unit, and the Ascain Training & Support Unit.
They were tasked with creating the posters after an awareness talk that was given to them by Smoking Cessation and Mental Health staff from the HSE, as part of No Tobacco Day.
The launch of the winning posters was held last week at Rowanfield House, and they will be displayed at Abbey Vocational School and various HSE locations.
Gemma McLoone, Manager, Ascain Training & Support Service said: “The collaborative approach was to raise awareness amongst the younger generations as to how tobacco markets are targeting them with the intention of encouraging their addiction to products that will keep these markets in profit for many years ahead.”
“Our Tobacco Free Campus posters will change monthly as there have been 12 final pieces selected – one for each month of the year. This promotes sustainability, keeps the message fresh as it changes 12 times er year. Thanks to all the students who took part and congratulations to the 12 artists whose pieces were selected.”
Anna Wray, the student who won first prize in the competition said: “I was delighted to take part in developing a bespoke signage for Rowanfield House in Donegal Town and Ascain in Letterkenny to promote their tobacco and vape free campuses. It was a great experience using my love for art as a gateway into encouraging others in improving their health.”
