A four-year-old ‘treasure hunter’ is being hailed a hero after a wedding ring he found on a west Donegal beach this week was reunited with its owner.
Tasman ‘Tas’ Stevenson was digging for ‘pirate’s treasure’ on the seaside in front of his father Greg’s Teach Mhíci holiday rental cottage when he discovered the wedding band at Dooey, Lettermacaward. The gold ring was inscribed with the name of a woman and was dated 2001.
After the initial find was posted on Donegal Daily yesterday, a local resident contacted Mr Stevenson to say it belonged to her father and that it was lost around five years ago.
“He dug it up on the shore right in front of Teach Mhíci (Mickey’s Cottage) whilst looking for pirate’s treasure with his brother Mickey (8),” proud dad Greg told Donegal Daily.
“When he shouted he’d found gold, I thought he was pulling my leg. They love being down at that beach – we’re lucky the cottage has direct access down to the sands.”
Not content with his big find, Tas is off to Dooey this morning again in search of more loot!
