Lengthy wait times at the pedestrian crossing lights near Glencar Shopping Centre have been fixed, much to the relief of local families.
Councillor Jimmy Kavanagh brought the issue to the attention of the council in May, expressing concerns about children’s safety due to the extended wait times.
“The lights could take up to four minutes to change,” Cllr. Kavanagh told the council meeting. “Parents are very worried about this as the road is very busy, and children tend to take their chances and just run across rather than wait for the lights to change, and they are afraid that a child will be knocked down and injured.”
With the summer holidays approaching, Cllr. Kavanagh emphasized the urgency of addressing the problem.
The council’s engineers have since acted on the issue and Cllr. Kavanagh has been informed that the traffic lights have been adjusted and are functioning properly.
“The lights have been adjusted and are working as they should without a long delay in changing to allow pedestrians to cross,” Cllr Kavanagh said.
“I would like to thank the council for getting this seen to quickly.”
