Video footage appears to show vandals attacking a bench for disabled people in west Donegal at the weekend.
Gardaí are investigating the latest vandalism of community property at the Corkscrew Hill, Doochary, last Friday, sometime between 11.40pm and 11.50pm.
The specially made bench was pushed over and a tourist information sign at that location was pulled out of the ground and broken. A number of wooden planter boxes were also turned over and the plants discarded.
There were several similar attacks on the community last year, however, the latest incident is the first in a number of months.
A spokesperson for the local community group posted a video on Facebook which appeared to show the attack being carried out.
“Our cameras have recorded footage of the 5/6 individuals who caused devastating damage to our beautiful picnic area at the Corkscrew lookout point,” they said.
The recording began at 11.48pm on Friday night when the young men pulled up in a white crew cab pickup truck.
“This footage has been passed to the Garda and they will be investigating the matter.
We are eager for the return of the signs as these were very expensive, if anyone comes across either or both we would be grateful for their return. We are a voluntary group and fundraising this year to make certain areas of our village more accessible to users of wheelchairs. This area is set to be tarred soon and the total disrespect of these individuals is shameful.”
Gardaí appeal to anybody who may have travelled in that area between 11.30pm and midnight on that date with a dash cam to make contact with Milford Garda Station on 074-9153060.
