Clannad are to shoot a documentary which will tell the story of the band including their early days as a fledging folk group in the heart of the Donegal Gaeltacht.
The band were recently honour with the Freedom of Donegal after more than 50 years in the music business during which they have become world-renowned musicians.
The band have played to millions of fans around the globe, sold millions of albums and picked up award after award.
But now one of the three remaining original members of the band, Pól Brennan, has revealed that they are to make a documentary about the life of the band.
It was not revealed where or when the documentary will be released.
But Pól revealed that the early days of the band as little-known musicians and their early influences will feature as part of the project.
He said “We are going to do a feature documentary later this year that will tell the back story as much as the story that we have and that we all know of what we have done since the Letterkenny Folk Festival and since Harry’s Game and all the awards.
“There is a back story that has to be told as well and that will tell as much about Clannad as much as the story that is out there.”
Despite being lauded around the world, the band told family and friends at last week’s reception at County House in Lifford that it is home that means the most to them.
“We were very proud to have been honoured by our own county and it doesn’t matter where we are in the world we carry Gaoth Dobhair and Donegal with us,” said Pól.
