The annual Hickey, Clarke & Langan Inter Firms 5km took place last Tuesday from Diver’s Hyundai on Canal Road, Letterkenny.
The event was well supported and LAC’s Mark McPaul ran an excellent time of 15.43 to win the race. Mark was running with Enterprise Rent a Car while Noeleen Scanlon was the first member to cross the line in 17:04 followed by Michael Harkin in 17:14 running with St. Eunans. Enda McLaughlin ran 17:56 with Zeus, Cian Friel ran 17:58 with Donegal County Council, Dessie Sheils ran 18:09, Luke Daly 18:38, Luke Sweeney ran 19:05 with St. Eunans, Callum Keaveny ran 19:12, Caolan Spratt ran 19:14 with St. Eunans, Aidan McKenna ran 19:24, Barry Mackey ran 19:53, Colly O’Donnell ran 20:05 with Sweeney’s Spar, Paul Toner ran 20:21 with the ATU, Mark McFadden ran 20:54 with Glenveagh, Frances Judge ran 21:56, Frank Pinder ran 23:32 with TCS, Denis Gallagher ran 29:46 and Claire Price ran 29:47.
Congratulations to LAC’s Ann Marie McGlynn who raced in London in the Highgate “Night of 10,000m PBs”. Ann Marie crossed the line in 33:17.
Well done to club members who competed in the Strabane half marathon. Philip McHugh ran an outstanding time of 1:14:01, Kieran Crawford 1:23:02, Alvaro Azpetitia 1.31.04, Ciaran O’Donnell 1:36:46, Margaret Shiels 1:49:51, Ray McDermott 1:52:25, Conor McDaid 1:56:31, while Diane Bustard ran 2:10:03.
LAC Fit 4 Life ran super times of 1.50.22 and 2:07:19 in the relays.
In the National 5k which was held in the Phoenix Park Dublin LAC’s senior men’s team were crowned National Senior 5k silver medallists.
There was a clean sweep in the over 35’s category in the National 5k championships with Danny Mooney, Mark Greenan & Eoghain McGinley taking 1st, 2nd & 3rd place respectively.
Also, congratulations to Ciaran Doherty who was the winner of the over 45’s category.
Kilmacrennan National School hosted a 5km road race and Paul Toner was the first LAC member to cross the line in a time of 20:17 while Monica McGranaghan was first female home in 20:38. Stephen Shiels ran 20:45, Gary Price 21:33 and Samuel Rankin ran 24:10.
LAC meets Tuesday 5.15pm and at 6.30pm for an interval running session, Thursday evening for a hill run at 6pm, Saturday morning at 9.30am for a tempo run and Sunday morning at 8am for a long run.
All runs start at the Aura. All levels catered for and encouraged.
Fit 4 Life which is run by LAC in conjunction with the Donegal Sports Partnership takes place every Monday at 5.45pm on the track at the Aura Leisure Centre Letterkenny.
The aim of the programme is to reach out to those who wish to improve their fitness and all are most welcome any Monday they choose to attend.
Fit 4 Life is not about speed but fitness and the coaches from LAC particularly welcome newcomers.
