It was a busy Bike Week at Finn Wheelers Cycling Club with three events starting with the Community Evening Cycle on Tuesday evening (14th May), Ladies Cycle on Wednesday evening (15th May) and ending with a Breakfast Cycle on Sunday morning, 19th May.
Each cycle explored the beautiful landscape and scenery of the Finn Valley and East Donegal.
The club said it was great to be joined by people new to cycling or who haven’t been out on a bike for a while in perfect weather for cycling. The club was also joined by members of the neighbouring Club Rothaíochta Chú Uladh.
There was plenty of chat and banter at all events with refreshments and plenty of spot prize winners afterwards.
The final Bike Week event was the Breakfast Cycle on Sunday morning. Over 30 cyclists set off at 9am to complete the 30km and 40km routes working up an appetite for a hearty cooked breakfast in the restaurant at Ballybofey & Stranorlar Golf Clubhouse with beautiful views over the golf course.
Club chairperson Brian Mc Elhinney thanked everyone for coming out to participate in the cycle events and invited participants to join the weekly club cycles which are every Sunday morning at 9am and every Tuesday & Thursday evening at 7pm. All cycles depart from Glenside Business Park.
The club is encouraging the formation of a women’s group for a weekly club cycles starting on Friday 24th May, departing Glenside at 7pm. More information on weekly activities is available on the Finn Wheelers social media pages.
National Bike Week is an annual celebration and promotion of the benefits of cycling with events around the country for all levels weather a seasoned cyclist or a newcomer.
The incentive was a success for the Finn Wheelers club with new and returning members and people trying group cycling for the first time which was great to see.
For anyone looking to join the club and the weekly cycles you can contact the club at 086 8059456, by emailing finnwheelers@gmail.com or messaging through the Finn Wheelers Facebook page.
The club would like to acknowledge the support from Donegal Sports Partnership, Donegal County Council, National Transport Authority and Cycling Ireland for the Bike Week events.
