Rathmullan House is mourning the loss of its patriarch, Bob Wheeler, who passed away peacefully last week at the age of 94.
Mr Wheeler’s legacy lies in the success of the award-winning Rathmullan House, having transformed the coastal property in the 1960s.
Mr Wheeler and his late wife Robin acquired Rathmullan House back in 1961, making many improvements along the way, and opening the house as a 22-bedroom hotel. Restoring the original Victorian grandeur, he ensured that the homely, relaxed and friendly atmosphere of the house was never lost.
Many years ago, he entrusted the reins to his son Mark and daughter-in-law Mary. Their commitment to hospitality and continuous improvement has remained a constant while Bob’s guiding light was never far away.
Honouring his memory, a tribute from Rathmullan House said: “After a great life of 94 years, Bob, the Patriarch of Rathmullan House for 60 years, passed away over the weekend.
“He’ll be remembered for his love of the hotel and its interiors, gardening and cooking.”
Late of Brae House, Rathmullan, and formerly of Rathmullan House, Mr Wheeler’s Funeral Service took place in St. Columb’s Church, Rathmullan on Sunday last, followed by interment in the adjoining cemetery.
Pre-deceased by his loving wife Robin, he is sadly missed by his children Juliet, Mark and William, son-in-law Patrick, daughters-in-law Mary and Yvonne, grandchildren, Alice, Millie, Sean, Molly, Daisy, Tom, Jack, Charlie and Harry.
