One of Donegal’s most unique churches will this week celebrate 50 years since its opening.
While St Connell’s Church in Glenties is a relatively new church, its stunning architecture represented a unique design at its time of construction.
The church building was designed by architect Liam McCormick (1916-96) who is considered the father of modern Irish church architecture.
The church was built by John Hegarty & Sons from Buncrana.
The building company were responsible for the construction of four of the churches designed by Liam McCormick including churches Glenties, Creeslough, Desertegney and Burt.
This week sees the 50th Anniversary of the opening of St Connells.
To commemorate the occasion, Mass will be offered on Sunday 19th May at 3pm and all are welcome.
