Donegal residents were treated to an incredible northern lights display last night, as the aurora lit up the night sky.
The stupendous display was caused by an extremely rare solar storm event, creating activity far further South than usual.
Social media has been inundated with pictures of the spectacular event, which saw the northern lights visible across much of northern Europe.
However, as it tends to do, Donegal stole the show with some absolutely phenomenal views provided by the county’s landscape – and willing amateur snappers.
St Eunan’s Cathedral provided some ethereal shots of Letterkenny’s night sky on social media.
Saffron Boyle sent us these surreal shots of the northern lights as seen in Lettercaugh last night.
Charlie McMenamin posted this phenomenal shot of Grianan of Aileach to Twitter/X last night, as captured by his daughter.
And Gavin Wallace (@gexploresmore, Instagram) captured this beautiful shot of Doe Castle under the Northern Lights.
