Letterkenny residents have appealed a decision to grant planning permission for a major new sports complex to An Bord Pleanála (ABP).
Last month, Donegal County Council gave Atlantic Technological University (ATU) the green light for the development on a 42 acre site at Carnamuggagh Lower/Knocknamona.
It includes plans for an indoor dome of 10.8m in height suitable for a variety of year-round sports activities.
The complex also has plans for a multitude of outdoor pitches, including an artificial grass GAA pitch, grass/sand GAA competition pitch, two natural grass soccer pitches and four synthetic pitches ideal for 5-a-side soccer matches.
However, residents of the Hazelwood Drive estate next to the site have appealed the decision to ABP.
In their objection, they say they are broadly in support of the project. However, they are seriously concerned about some issues previously raised which, they say, have not been adequately addressed.
They state that an EIAR (Environmental Impact Assessment Report) was, in some parts, ‘quite dismissive of the impacts of the development.’
The residents also noted that, as the council is a partner in the development, they want their submission to be given ‘due and impartial consideration’.
The planning appeals board is to make a decision on the appeal by early September.
