Donegal Drama Circle brings its production of ‘Blackbird’, by David Harrower, to theatres in Donegal and Fermanagh over the coming weeks.
The play will be performed in the Balor Theatre, Ballybofey, next Thursday, May 16th, and in the Ardhowen Theatre, Enniskillen, on Saturday 18th.
The Drama Circle has a long tradition in bringing high quality drama to the Donegal town area and has competed many times in the All-Ireland competition. This is their first time on tour for a while, although Christian Carbin (Director) has brought many shows on the road over the last 20 years.
Blackbird is a story/conversation between Una (played by Laura McNulty) and Ray (Christian Carbin) with Faye Gallagher playing the young girl part. Una has tracked Ray down to his current place of work fifteen years after they had a ‘relationship that was taboo’. It is a hard-hitting drama full of tension and won the Tony award for best new play in 2007. It is a topical play, covering a subject that has been to the fore in the media over the past 20 years. If you only see one play this year you should see this one.
Christian (above) is no stranger to the stage; he is a seasoned performer having just competed in the All Ireland Finals with Enniskillen Theatre Company with their performance of The Lonesome West.
Laura McNulty is a graduate of NUIG in theatre studies and recently thrilled audiences in Donegal town with her performance as Maureen Folan in The Beauty Queen of Leenane. Faye Gallagher (below) is a vibrant young actress who you will see a lot more of in the future.
Please note that this play is not suitable for under 16s and sexual abuse of a minor is discussed.
