The Woodlands National School community could be getting a step closer to improved safety measures as Donegal County Council seeks funding for a new footpath.
Calls for a footpath connecting the school to the Kiltoy junction on the R245 have been ongoing for several years.
Cllr Donal ‘Mandy’ Kelly has confirmed that the council has made a commitment to seek funding for the construction of the path through the 2024 Community Recognition Fund.
Woodlands NS, which has approximately 350 pupils, lacks a safe footpath from the school to nearby estates at Loughnagin. This has prevented children and parents/guardians from walking to school each day.
“I’m delighted the council is now committed to putting an application forward to seek funding for this much-needed footpath for all residents and road users,” Cllr Kelly said.
“This is something that has been brought to my attention by several residents in the area. There is no doubt in my mind that the measures need to be implemented.
“I will be keeping an eye on this going forward to make sure it is successful.”
