With the weather improving, motorcyclists are expected to be out in greater numbers on the roads nationwide.
Gardaí in Donegal are calling on all motorcyclists to prioritise safety before hitting the road.
Statistics show that the most dangerous time for motorcyclists on our roads is during the summer months on Sunday afternoons between 2pm and 7pm.
“We ask all motorcyclists to complete safety checks on their motorcycles before setting out on their journey and to wear suitable protective clothing and a helmet that is fitted correctly and meets EU safety standards,” a spokesperson said.
“We are also urging all drivers to constantly be on the lookout for motorcyclists in their blind spots and at junctions.
“Speed is a factor in half of all motorcycle roads deaths so please stay within the speed limits and don’t become a statistic.”
