Donegal man pleads guilty to two counts of sexual assault

A Donegal man has pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Letterkenny Circuit Court.

The defendant was charged that, at a named location between October 20, 2009 and October 22, 2009, both dates inclusive, that he sexually assaulted a female person by touching her genitals.

The accused man was also charged with sexually assaulting a female person by touching her genitals at another address between August 13, 2009 and August 12, 2010.

The man spoke only to plead guilty when the charges were put to him during the short hearing before Judge John Aylmer.

The man’s barrister, Mr Colm Smyth SC, instructed by solicitor Mr Frank Dorrian, asked for legal aid to be extended to cover the preparation of a psychologist’s report and a GP report.

The identity of the accused cannot be published in order to protect the anonymity of the victims in the case.

The man was remanded on continuing bail and Judge Aylmer adjourned the case until October.
