Gardaí are appealing for information after two historic graveyards were vandalised at the weekend.
The first incident occurred at the ancient Raymochy Abbey site near Manorcunningham some time between 6pm on Friday and noon on Saturday.
Vandals damaged a number of headstones as well as a sign (main pic) erected by the local Raymochy Historical Society. Garda Niall Maguire said the ‘beautiful, ancient’ graveyard is maintained by the local community who dedicated a lot of their time to its upkeep.
Meanwhile, two headstones were smashed in the graveyard at St Eunan’s Cathedral, Raphoe, sometime between 6.15 pm on Thursday and 9:30 am on Friday.
It was the second attack on the same graveyard this year.
However, Gda Maguire believes the Ramochy and Raphoe incidents are not connected.
“We appeal to anybody who can assist in any way with this investigation to do so by contacting Gardaí in Letterkenny on 074-9167100 or The Garda Confidential Line may also be contacted on 1800 666 111,” he said.
